Mortgage Broker Salary

The real estate market of recent years is booming. With all of that money floating around, it seems like it might be a good industry to get into. Maybe you want to work in the real estate market in some way, but being a realtor does not really appeal to you. If you are drawn more to financial considerations, and if would like to work in a competitive field performing a helpful service to customers, maybe you should think about becoming a mortgage broker. As a mortgage broker you would be a sort of mediator between a homebuyer and lenders, helping to get the best interest rate for your clients. One of the most important considerations for someone hoping to break into mortgage broking, of course, is the mortgage broker salary.

How much money could you make if you decided to become a mortgage broker?

The mortgage broker's salary actually can vary quite a bit. The best brokers do not get a salary because they work on commission. The job is not an easy one, so working on commission rewards a mortgage broker for actual work done and provides an added incentive for success. A good mortgage broker would either be able to generate many loans or oversee other successful brokers generating loans.

The mortgage broker salary does exist for some brokers who are just starting out or training. But as for most sales positions, the usual practice is to start a mortgage broker out on commission. That way he or she strives to do better because when he does a good job, he is rewarded accordingly. The companies that do have a mortgage broker salary are usually big banks and lenders providing it to loan officers to help them get started in the business. This wage is not much, usually just enough of a paycheck to live on. Once the mortgage broker starts making at least as much in commissions as in salary, the salary is discontinued.

Some companies also offer a draw, or a sort of advance payment, instead of a mortgage broker salary. The amount of the advance is then subtracted later from the broker's commission.

If you want to work regular hours for the same check every pay period, mortgage broking probably is not the right career for you. If you want a job with ups and downs that has the potential to generate a lot of money, look no further. All things considered, mortgage broking can be a very rewarding job. Do not be scared off by the idea of working for commission. A mortgage broker salary would just keep you from reaching your full earning potential in the end, because once you learn the job you will be able to earn much more in commissions than you ever could in salary.
